How to Declare your Major

How do I become an American Studies major?

  1. If you're thinking about becoming an American Studies major, the first step is to meet with the Director of Undergraduate Programs (DUP), Professor David Singerman. The meeting is an opportunity to explain the major, go over what courses you've taken and future courses you might take, and get your questions answered.
  2. Once you've met with Prof. Singerman, you can fill out the AMST Major Declaration Form by clicking this link. (On the first page, only fill in your own name and email - the form is pre-filled with the rest of the right information.)
  3. Once the DUP officially approves your form, your major will appear in SIS within a week, and you will be assigned to a faculty member in the department as your official advisor. (If there's a particular teacher who you've talked to about the major, feel free to request them as your advisor and we will do our best to accommodate!)
