Commonwealth Professor of American Studies and History Grace Elizabeth Hale will give three book talks this week. On September 11, she will discuss her book, In the Pines: A Lynching, A Lie, A Reckoning, at the University of Southern Mississippi. On September 12, she will speak about the book at the NewSouth bookstore in Montgomery, Alabama. On September 14, she will present at the Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson, MS.

Professor Hale is an award-winning historian and internationally recognized expert on modern American culture and the regional culture of the US South, she has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Slate, the American Scholar, and CNN. A recent Carnegie Fellow, she is the author of three previous books: Making Whiteness: The Culture of Segregation in the South, 1890-1940; A Nation of Outsiders, and Cool Town.
